Heroes Collection
Heroes – hand made
It was back in 2001 that the first model was created, based on the poster boy of 1920’s rugby Wavell Wakefield, who later became 1st Baron Wakefield of Kendal.
Heroes Collection now has it’s own website: Please visit us at www.handpaintedheroes.com
"Inspired by this we created a series of figures, which we duly sent off to the RFU and the Welsh Rugby Union as a potential gift idea for rugby enthusiasts. Suffice to say they showed little or no interest and the idea was forgotten."
"It was not until Bill Beaumont came to speak at Ledbury RFC in 2012 that I decided to resurrect the idea, giving him a figure as a thank you. It was well received and as a result I got weaving again, but this time produced action shots of famous rugby players, which suddenly gave them dynamism which had been lacking before. Also my painting technique and knowledge improved dramatically with practice."
An article in The Rugby Paper in July 2014 has been well received and an appearance on BT Sport’s “Rugby Tonight” also sparked a lot of interest. As a result I have made contact with numerous international rugby players and arranged for one-off signed editions. We have also made numerous 'one offs' for family and friends and as presents for special occasions."
The figures are constructed using 4mm plywood – hand painted with acrylic paint and then varnished. They are mounted on a plinth of solid hardwood.
The figures range in size from 200mm - 300mm high.
Presentation boxes can also be provided with an appropriate programme or backing.
